Concealed Handgun License

As of May 17^th, 2021, the Mahoning County Sheriff’s records division will be changing its hours:

**No concealed handgun applications on Fridays**

**Please note** Ohio house bill 614 expires on June 30, 2021. After that date, you must be a resident of Mahoning, Trumbull, Portage, Stark, or Columbiana counties to apply in Mahoning County. Any appointments that are made after that date and do not meet the residency requirements will not be processed by this office.

When applying you must bring:

Training Certificate (Training certificates are valid up to three years from class completion) Certificate must attest applicant has met Ohio training requirements for Concealed Handgun License  

Prior Issued Ohio Conceal Carry Permit - Permits can be renewed at any point prior to expiration date and any time after expiration date.  A new class is not required should your license be expired.

Completed Application

Passport Photo w/receipt - Photo must be less than 30 days old. 

Valid Ohio Driver’s license or Valid Ohio Identification Card

Concealed Handgun Permit application fees:

New CHL License Application

• New license (resident of Ohio for 5+ years) - $67 
• New license (resident of Ohio less than 5 years) - $77
• Photo can be taken for an additional $15

Renewal CHL License Application

• Renewal (resident of Ohio for 5+ years) - $50 
• Renewal (resident of Ohio less than 5 years) - $60
• Photo can be taken for an additional $15
• A renewal license can be done at any point prior to expiration date and any time after expiration date.  A new class is not required should your license be expired.
  

Temporary "Emergency" CCW License Application

• Temporary Emergency (resident of Ohio for 5+ years) - $37
• Temporary Emergency (resident of Ohio less than 5 years) - $47
• Photo can be taken for an additional $15

Military Conceal Carry Applicants

When applying you must bring:

• Active Military ID, Retired Military ID or DD214 Reflecting Honorable Discharge. 

• Valid Ohio Driver’s license or Valid Ohio Identification Card

• Completed Application

• Renewal: Prior Issued Ohio Conceal Carry Permit - Permits can be renewed at any point prior to expiration date and any time after expiration date.  A new class is not required should your license be expired.

*Under Ohio House Bill 81 application fees are waved

Fees must be paid with Exact Cash , Credit Card or Money Order, made payable to Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.


Mailing Gun Permits: (Can only be mailed to the address located on the application) If you bring a self-addressed and stamped envelope, we can mail the new permit. For a renewal, the current permit must be surrendered before the updated permit can be mail out.
